Defining a Resin Bound Sub-Base: A resin bound sub-base is a fully permeable structure allowing water to naturally seep through it into the ground beneath. This complies with Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) regulations, rendering resin bound surfaces an environmentally friendly option that significantly reduces the risk of flooding, puddling, and damp conditions.
A standard resin bound installation includes three fundamental layers: a sub-base, a binder course, and a surface dressing.
Sub-base: The groundwork of all resin bound projects starts with the setup of a clean stone sub-base. This material is spread across the site and then compacted using a plate compactor to establish a solid foundation.
Binder Course: The second layer is a 10mm open course tarmac base. Installed hot at temperatures up to 190°C, this layer differs from regular road tarmac as it facilitates free water drainage through its structure. Our specialist groundworkers ensure this material is evenly spread across the site before it is compacted and prepared for the resin bound finish.
Note: The binder course offers a temporary surface that can be walked or driven on (once cooled). This is particularly beneficial when weather conditions delay resin bound installations, ensuring you still have a practical surface to use in the interim.
Surface Dressing: The final step is the resin bound finish. This high-quality, highly decorative surface is fully permeable, resistant to weeds, fading, discoloration, and provides anti-slip properties. The resin bound finish is hand-laid by our expert resin team. Your choice of decorative stones is mixed with a UV stable resin in a forced action mixer, then spread over your project area and hand raked evenly. The resin bound mix is then smoothed and compacted using a hand trowel to create a premium, durable finish.
